I have noticed that there is a huge difference in the response you get from people when you tell them "I am allergic to gluten" vs "I don't eat wheat." The first garners sympathy...how hard life must be for you! Nobody would willingly give up wheat so it makes sense that you are doing it because your body physically can't handle it!
You don't eat wheat because you CHOOSE not to? You are crazy. Crazy, crazy, and probably a hippie.
Anyway telling people about my gluten allergy/ lactose intolerance (which I think I actually have) has worked really well for me when I am constantly surrounded by free cake and cookies.
"Oh, sorry!" they'll say "You can't eat this, can you?"
"Nope." I reply with a slight pout. "Well, I could but I'll be sad later."
They nod as we turn away from the devil's temptation that are donuts and continue on our merry way. crisis averted.

bench press pr! /30 day shred
yesterday I PR'd on the bench press-90lbs! That's 15lbs more than the last time I tested for max. I want to break 100 on my bench press...that would be pretty sweet. however I'm probably nearing the end of the "noob gainer period" as alex and I like to call it where you can cut fat and build muscle at the same time. Since my goal is fat loss I'll soon reach a point where I'm not making strength gains because I'm not eating enough...but I think I can be ok with that.
yesterday I also decided to do Jillian Michael's workout DVD with Beans (called the 30 day shred). This may have negatively impacted my lifting afterwards but the DVD is heavier on the cardio than on lifting. Jillian says a lot of silly things like "toning" muscle and "we have to work a small muscle group with a big muscle group!" but I think the dvd definitely gives a good 18 minute workout.
My sleep schedule's thrown off again since I had to wake up at 5am to be on set today argh. That's one of the more annoying aspects about being an extra...my schedule changes from day to day. one day I have to be on set at 5pm and the next I have to be there at 6am. it's also really really hard to resist the temptation of donuts, bagels, and other non paleo foods that are calling to me from the craft services table.

442/ sprint WOD
3 rounds of the maximum number of pullups, pushups, situps and squats I can do=442!
It was really motivational to do wednesday's WOD next to Tim who cranked out like 300 squats in one round. dude is a machine. I definitely could've gotten more pushups since I forgot that I could rest between the reps as long as my knees didn't touch the floor. oh well! I'm really proud of my pullups-seven for the first round, six for the second and EIGHT for the last round!
Yesterday team riceberry (that's me and alex) tackled the sprint WOD which consisted of 1000meter row, 100 kettlebell swings (with the green kettlebell I think it's like 20lbs?), 50 burpees, 100 push presses (with the 45lb bar), and an 800meter sprint. This was broken up in a way that would have one teammate doing a short burst of work while the other one rested.
The workout was also a lesson in the importance of sleep...I had gotten off work at 11:30pm the night before (yayyy 11 hour work days) and could definitely feel the lack of sleep during the warmup. When a jog around the block with 5 pushups at each corner is hard you know something is off.
Anyway hopefully I'll do better with sleep and diet this week. I've been trying to log my food on thedailyplate.com but it's hard when eating out at a place that isn't in the daily plate database. Which probably means I shouldn't be eating out...but on wednesdays the hot food bar at whole foods is only 5.99 a pound! How can I resist? Anyway I'm trying to cut out gluten and dairy at the very least to give my skin a break. Hopefully I will be more successful than today's temptation of calamari and chocolate lava cake!

Midnight Marauders
Last Thursday Alex and I had a blast running the adventure race called Midnight Marauders It involved us running around Duarte looking for landmarks, answering trivia questions and completing tasks such as kettlebell swings and carrying a medicine ball. We ran the "short course" which was supposed to be 3.5 miles but the route we used caused us to run closer to 5.
Of course this was after that morning's WOD which was to run 3.5 miles uphill!
So my thursday was spend runing running running but it was a great way to recover from Vegas madness.
Now I'm excited to do the camp pendleton mud run in June with some other 5 and 10ks along the way!
